Program Description

Program/Practice Description: Funded through the Department of Labor and One-Stop Center cost allocation pools, there are 14 Disability Navigator positions in Texas. In each region, the Disability Navigator serves as the key resource within the center, providing training for One-Stop staff on assisting populations with disabilities, conducting community outreach to agencies serving those with disabilities, and educating employers about workers with disabilities.

Innovations and Results: The Disability Navigator position is an innovative approach to offering seamless services to persons with disabilities. The navigator serves as a facilitator of training and education to staff and employers and as a capacity builder within the community, creating greater access to disability resources. In Dallas, staff received high-level training in assisting persons with disabilities in the One-Stop Centers, and a countywide community advisory group was created to exchange information and referrals within agencies working with populations with disabilities.
