Chicago Mothers on Finding and Using Child Care During Nonstandard Work Hours

This article from “Early Childhood Research and Practice” explores how single mothers choose child care when they work nontraditional work hours. The authors interviewed 50 single mothers in Chicago who work nontraditional hours and found that the majority choose informal care through family, friends, or neighbors, even if they can afford a licensed center. The article details the challenges and experiences relating to their work schedules these mothers had in finding child care, which were sometimes variable.
