The Rise of Residential Segregation by Income

From the Pew Research Center for Social and Demographic Trends, a report was released describing the trends over time in the household income composition of America's neighborhoods or census tracts. The report focused on the characteristics of lower, middle, and upper-income households. Across the United States, residential segregation by income has increased during the past three decades. Increases are due to long-term rise in income inequality. This analysis report covers the significant differences among the nation's 10 most populous metropolitan areas in the patterns and degree of residential segregation by income.
