The Utah Family Employment Program Agreement of Mutual Responsibility establishes terms of partnership between the TANF customer and Department of Workforce Services (DWS) employment counselor to ensure that the customer understands what is required to participate in the Family Employment Program. It is presented here in both English and Spanish.

In 2016, Utah Department of Workforce Services launched the “Family Employment Program (FEP) Refocus Academy” to train FEP case workers on Utah’s new family-focused case management model. The Academy consists of seven training modules plus follow-up activities. The Case Management I Training module addressed Motivational Interviewing, assessment, and engaging with TANF participants. The resources include: Motivational Interviewing I Skills, Sample Questions to Elicit Responses from Customers, Assessment in Action, Family Employment Program: Agreement of Mutual Responsibility (in English and Spanish), Talking Points on the Utah DWS Substance Abuse Determination Process, and a Coaching Guide on Identifying Case Management Skills and Strategies to Use When Working with Customers who Demonstrate Difficult Behavior.

The National Hire Network Clearinghouse provides contact information for state-specific government agencies and community-based organizations that can assist people who have criminal records. Assistance may include providing job-related and legal services, answering questions from individuals with criminal records, or offering referrals to other useful organizations.

These worksheets from the Battered Women’s Justice Project are designed to help family court practitioners record, summarize, integrate and synthesize information gathered about abuse; consider implications for family court processes; and ensure that practitioners’ actions are directly responsive to the actual implications of the abuse for each particular family.

This report, by Ernst & Young and MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, uses 18 case studies to describe how corporate America is becoming involved in the youth mentoring movement. The authors provide best practices for corporate engagement including the thoughtful development of relationships with partners, investment in evidence-based programming, and targeted employee engagement.

North Carolina A&T State University Center for Behavioral Health and Wellness published a best practices brief focusing on the six standards of mentoring: recruitment, screening, training, matching, monitoring & support, and closure. Recommendations within each of the six standards are based in recent research and are informed by the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring (2009). The authors provide guidance on cultural considerations and ethical principles, and provide an overview of current trends in youth mentoring such as youth-initiated mentoring.

This report from the Greater New Haven Job Access and Transportation Working Group provides data and analysis regarding recent job growth in the New Haven area and the issues low-income residents have accessing those jobs. The most reported barrier was related to a lack of appropriate transportation. The report provides the data depicting the issues and lays out the plan to collaboratively improve transportation service.

This article from the Center for Social Development is an update and extension of a 2013 journal article regarding the financial impacts of Child Development Accounts (CDAs). The data is based on the SEED for Oklahoma Kids randomized experiment 7 years after the intervention began.

This report prepared for the City of Los Angeles Workforce Investment Board and the Economic and Workforce Development Department by California State University Northridge, provides an evaluation of a summer youth employment program called “Hire LA’s Youth”. Findings and recommendations are provided.
