Report

Non-traditional-Hour Child Care in Austin/Travis County

This Urban Institute report examines childcare needs and access for parents who work outside traditional business hours, focusing on Austin and Travis County, Texas. It explores the challenges families face in finding care that accommodates evening, overnight, weekend, and other non-traditional work schedules. Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) administrators and practitioners can use the findings to better understand how limited childcare options may affect parents' ability to maintain employment, meet TANF program requirements, and achieve financial stability. The resource can also inform local partnerships, childcare referral strategies, and efforts to identify gaps in services for families whose work schedules do not align with standard childcare hours.
