Supporting Survivors in the Workforce: Trauma-Informed Approaches for Employment Program

For some Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) participants, employment barriers are connected to experiences of violence, instability, or trauma. A trauma-informed approach can help employment programs recognize those circumstances without making them the defining feature of a participant’s experience. The National Youth Employment Coalition will host a webinar on October 8, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. ET to provide an opportunity for TANF practitioners and their employment counterparts to consider how workforce programs can create environments that are safer, more responsive, and better equipped to support survivors as they pursue economic stability. For TANF staff, the topic is especially relevant to case management and employment services: it can prompt teams to consider how program expectations, communication, referrals, and employer partnerships can support participation without creating additional barriers for people navigating difficult circumstances.
